Sailing the Dalmatian Coast: The Photos

Part Two: The Photos

There’s blue… and then there is Adriatic Blue. This is what it looks like to island hop along the coast of Croatia (with a weekend stay in Slovenia).

Early morning hike on the limestone cliffs at Teliscica Park, island of Sali.
1-barbara-at-goli
Docked at Goli Otok. Translates to “naked island”.
2-krk-sailboat
Ready to go ashore on Krk Island. (pronounced “kierk” or “kirk” but not “crick”)
trees
Fig, olive, and almond trees are everywhere. The almonds were the only ones in season …and yes we ate them fresh off the tree. So so so good.
3-sali-harbor
Reflective feels in Sali. Or maybe Rab? So many islands, so many charming towns.
4-lock-bridgeV2
Love locks on a bridge in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
5-umbrella
Croatian rules: 1. The door is always open; 2. Keep an umbrella nearby.
6-opatija-coast-statueV2
The grand Belle Epoque-era city of Opatija, aka “Riviera of Croatia”. Must come back here.
7-boat-wake
Everyday.
8-goliotok-ocean-view
Goli Otok: want to wander around an abandoned secret prison unsupervised? Me: That’s rhetorical, right?
9-goli-beach-view
It’s not the worst view ever, as prisons go. I assume.
10-clear-water-my-feet
Crystal clear. The Adriatic is the cleanest water I’ve ever seen.
12-teliscica-rowboatV2
Because.
13-Opatija-cafe-oceanfront
Stormy morning = cafe to ourselves in Opatija.
astoria-menu
Fresh and local is the default for food around here. As it should be.
15-approaching-saliV2
Approaching a new island… my favorite moment. Always.
17-rab-pink-house
A pink house on Rab, reflecting that bluer than blue sky.
18-gostilina-lectar-sign
Friendly, adj. Definition: After serving us a 4-course dinner, Mr. Joze serenaded us with his acoustic version Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline. I love this country.

So when are we going back? Because I need more of this in my life. And so do you.
