This is how I want to remember Key West: sunlight streaming through the palms in the calm early morning. Before the rest of the island woke up, when it felt like my own private paradise.

Confession: I rarely saw this view, as I am not usually up before 9ish. Perhaps I loved this view precisely because it was so rare? Sounds true. Extrinsic value and all that.


…And so I set out to relocate to Honolulu, taking possibly the most convoluted route in the history of road trips. I am fairly certain that if one were to draw a straight line from Florida to Hawaii, it would not go through Canada. Heck, it barely goes through the United States.

Also it would not take four months. And yet:
